Using some Christmas $$, I bought a 50mm lens for my camera. Why a fixed lens? It lets in more light (less need for flash indoors) and allows for more bokeh. What's bokeh? Bokeh is the blurring of the out-of-focus areas which helps to emphasize the main subject. These lenses are great for portraits. Hope to have some great shots using it over the next few months.
If you can't guess, the background of this shot is a lit Christmas Tree (note how the bear isn't entirely in focus.)

It's one of the hotter years on record, with the Valley seeing 90-100's for the last month. How do you keep cool? Between air conditioning, watering "the plants" and swimming, I've managed not to melt. But what if you live in the zoo?
