Hackday - Two Time Winner
|
For the second time, I was on the winning team for Yahoo's Hackday. This time I was the only developer, so it was a late night. Unfortunately, there have been no public announcements this time. But Yahoo! was busy with a major reorg, so Hackday was keep on the down-low. This time I had a feeling we were going to win. Now I'm not a believer in luck or karma, but the day just started out that way. I drove to work without hitting a single red light or traffic on the freeway. Then I found a parking spot on the first floor. Now' that's an achievement. Then, I just slowly progressed on the hack throughout the day and night, taking shortcuts at times (it's a hack after all), but feeling good the whole time. At midnight, I called it quits feeling that we had a potential winner on our hands. And it's not like there isn't competition ... there were over 100 entries this time. While I won't reveal the hack, I'm writing about some of the general techniques I use for it on my new php/javascript programming web site. If you're a programmer, follow along to see just how easy it is to get a Web 2.0 site with AJAX and animation up and running. |
