Pack Mentality
Walking at night, it doesn't matter if you on the plains of Africa or the streets of San Fernando, but you feel safer with a dog. I don't know if its the dog's senses or companionship when you're walking in the dark, sounds and shadows aren't nearly so scary. This is part of why dog is "mans best friend."
